Come on Eileen: Silence and Song Obsessions

I stare out the window, rocking gently in my chair. My head nods slightly, barely perceptively, in time with the familiar sounds oozing soothingly from my laptop speakers. I close my eyes and relish the moment of my favourite line in the chorus.

The song ends. Quiet. Too quiet.

My fingers trace silently along the computer keys, searching, searching for the right one. Ah! Found it. I hit replay.

Something that has been breaking up the droning silence of the past few months has been music. Every now and then I tend to find myself finding a song or a handful of songs that I love and want to listen to again and again and again. Does this happen to anyone else?

Today I listened to Come on Eileen for the first time. And the second. And the thirtieth. What can I say? It’s a banger. In fact, I’m quite literally typing this now, pausing occasionally to hit replay on the song. Not a bad way to spend a morning, if I do say so myself.
